I studied violin from the age of 2 (yes, really, I had a teeeeny violin) but at the age of 19 I had to choose between art school and music school and I figured I could make a more lucrative career out of art (since I would rather spend hours drawing rather than practicing the violin) so I made the switch.
I did a Foundation year and a year of a Graphic Design degree at The Akureyri School of Visual Arts (www.myndak.is) but then realised I wanted more of a challenge after winning an essay competition and receiving a free 2 week study tour to Japan (AMAZING TRIP!) . The trip opened my eyes and pushed me to move to Esbjerg, Denmark (despite my ancestry, I had never set foot there) and took a diploma in Multimedia Design at Business Academy West (www.eavest.dk).
Initially I had always wanted to study animation, but after being rejected by Sheridan, my dream university, I had taken on Graphic Design instead, so Multimedia design meant I would be a step closer to animation.
During my final year in Denmark I was offered a chance to go as an exchange student to Malaysia for my final semester and of course I jumped at the chance. That semester at Limkokwing University (www.limkokwing.edu.my) was so amazing I did not want to go home, and signed on to work in their marketing dept for a year recruiting students from Denmark and Iceland. After that year, I was offered a scholarship to finish my degree, and completed a BA (Hons) in Creative Multimedia in Dec 2007.
I was going to run off to Australia at this point and do my masters, but my plans changed despite having been accepted to RMIT and Swinburne and I decided to take one semester more at Limkokwing in fulltime animation while waiting to go to Newport, Wales and do an MA in Animation which is where I am now. I will graduate in Jan 2010 and I have to say...
It has been a helluva ride:)
