So the guy who directed stopmotion animation masterpieces Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach is now working on a new film. The storyline is based on a book by Neil Gaiman about a young girl who opens the door into her house and kinda into a parallel universe I guess where everything seems familiar but is somehow so horribly wrong. Probably turns out being one of those horribly scary animations that you have no idea how they made their PG rating...
Ok so its filmed entirely in stop motion animation, frame by frame, teeny movement by teeny movement...right down to the part where they animate Coraline breathing... Cool right??? Even cooler is that fact that its a 3D film (as in you can go to the cinema, wear 3D glasses and see parts of the film fly past you..., it is NOT 3D animation created in 3D software).
Coraline hits theatres February 2009!
But...for now you guys will be stuck like me watching these videos I nicked from Rotten Tomatoes and wondering how awesome will this film be.
All I can say is that I am so happy to be in this business. I move down to Wales on September 13th, my course doesn't start until October 8th though...am just itching to start! Meeting up with the head of the programme on Sept 22nd along with the other international students. If nothing else, then at least then the brainstorming can begin! Damn I miss brainstorming with a few people from Malaysia...
Jordan, Khai, Kamil, Tony, John, Meysam, Ian, Zahir, Jan...ah man...the ideas used to fly like fireworks!

Right now I am procrastinating my ass off. My work is going slowly, there's just too much going through my mind. I said far too much yesterday, it would have been good if I could have just shut the fuck up the whole day hahaha...
But I didn't and I said a few things that in hindsight I shouldn't.
And that means today I am going over it all in my head again and again and again...and my brain just won't stop going there. Groan. Worst part is, I really need my concentration today, since the task at hand is animation. I have to animate a walkcycle from the front, which involves a whole lotta foreshortening which any artist can tell you is damn hard, even when you have reference, since your eyes tend to trick you, to tell you to draw things that simply aren't there.
Also, the whole technique I was trying out earlier today, just isn't working, so I am back to the old pencil and paper. What can I say, it never fails me. Somehow I always feel best with a pencil in my hand.
But for gods sake, why can't I get that hand off my mind.
It's going to be a late and stressful night, that's for sure...
